Aldershot tweet infuriates Chelsea fans who claim they saved National League club

Chelsea fans have been left angered on social media after they were trolled by an Aldershot Town tweet.

As part of their pre-season schedule, the Blues sent a youthful XI to the National League side for a friendly.

However, despite having the talent that their Cobham academy is known to produce, they fell to a 3-1 defeat.

Aldershot wasted no time in celebrating the victory as they made reference to Chelsea's 12th-place Premier League finish last season.

"A comfortable victory against mid-table Premier League opposition," they tweeted after the full-time whistle.

Since then, the tweet has gained over 100,000 likes, with rival fans also revelling in the trolling from the Shots.

However, Chelsea supporters have been left than impressed after discovering what the club previously did to help Aldershot.

A consortium led by Shahid Azeem took over the Shots in 2013 to take them out of administration and sealed a deal with Chelsea.

Aldershot agreed to host the Blues' academy and reserve teams matches for two years, therefore bringing in more revenue.

Chelsea fans were quick to bring this up in light of the trolling, with one fan on Twitter saying: "It’s always the ones you helped that will drag you when you’re down."

Another added: "We bang on about big Premier League clubs never helping lower league football. Chelsea literally saved your club from going extinct and this is the first thing you do. It’s quite tragic if I’m being honest."

A third said: "Never bite the hand that fed you."

The match against Aldershot was one of Chelsea development side's four pre-season tests, having drawn against Boreham Wood and lost against Barnet.

Ebbsfleet are their final opponents of the summer, with Mauricio Pochettino's senior side currently in the United States.

They have fared better than the youngsters having claimed 5-0 and 4-3 wins over Wrexham and Brighton respectively.

Newcastle are their next opponents as part of the Premier League Summer Series before Fulham, with a clash against Borussia Dortmund also around the corner.
