The recently named Australian of the Year has another cause for celebration after tying the knot with her partner in an intimate ceremony.
Body image activist Taryn Brumfitt married Tim Pearson on Thursday, sharing the news on her Instagram account the following day with a photo of her and her new husband.
“Last night I married the love of my life, Tim, in an intimate celebration with just our kids, parents, siblings and close family,” the 45-year-old wrote to her 141,000 followers.
“It was the best night of my life. Tim and all the kids had prepared a speech, expressing the kind of words that make your eyes well up and your heart grow a little.”
Ms Brumfitt thanked her friends for helping her pull the wedding together “in record time”.
“Because, let’s be frank, I was way too much of a relaxed ‘she’ll be right’ bride. It’s a miracle anything got done!” she wrote.
She thanked her friend and Adelaide-based artist Tiff Manuell who created her wedding dress for her in just three weeks.
“Tiff didn’t just rustle up any old thing, she made and hand painted this stunning silk gown. I’ve never seen more exquisite dress in my life — thank you,” Ms Brumfitt wrote.
Ms Brumfitt also thanked the venue and her and Mr Pearson’s celebrant for their help on the big day.
“Isn’t love the best!” she wrote.
Ms Brumfitt was named the Australian of the Year for 2023 at a ceremony in Canberra in January for her work in body image activism.
The South Australian has written books and released documentaries over the past decade in a campaign to spread self-acceptance and self-love which has reached more than 200 million people.
Once a bodybuilder, Ms Burfitt was launched into the spotlight after sharing a picture of herself on social media that showed her carrying more weight in her “after” photo.
The twist on the “before and after photos” went viral, sparking a wave of support and launching a crusade that would lead her to preaching a message of positivity to children and adults around the world.
She’s also turning her attention to men’s body image, with plans to release a third documentary in her “Embrace” series after having focused on children and women in the earlier films.
